Pete Kenyon Solo

Peter kenyon Solo

Stunning Vocals & Guitar lay down a poignant relentless groove. Alternative country meets classic country meets folk meets pop.

The sound is Pete Kenyon and the Wake, whose soon-to-be released debut album - Long Hard Labour of Love - has already received strong positive industry feedback, with the first single and title track gaining national airplay on the Hot Country FM network.

A lover of classic song-writing, Pete finds the ‘3 chord’ simplicity of country inspiring. “Country music’s built around the body” says Pete, “Like Celtic music, it’s based on the dance. It’s human music, just by the melody alone. And there’s so many links between country and pop. It’s in the Stones, The Beatles. Or take a song like Springsteen’s I’m On Fire – pure country, but done in a rock style.”

Pete’s love of simplicity goes back to early musical inspirations like John Fogerty, Bob Dylan, Warren Zevon, Dave Edmunds, and the late, great Marc Bolan (who once wrote one of his biggest, and simplest, hits in 90 seconds flat!) Other inspirations have been the Celtic-rock of Big Country, and the folk-pop crossover of Joan Armatrading, Paul Kelly, Neil Young and J. J. Cale.

Pete has performed at many of the city’s best-known venues & festivals. Recently involved in a Nashville writing/recording project with rising country star Troy Kemp (of McAlistair Kemp - just signed to ABC Records), Pete’s also written with artists such as Dan Hall (Airway Lanes /Taxiride), & Tony Slavich (musical director: Renee Geyer, Ross Wilson, Mike Rudd.)

Pete performs both solo or with The Wake - as a duo, trio or full band.
