Mirlyn

Ambient music exploring several centuries and styles, featuring cello and guitar.
With many years performing experience, this delightful duo draw upon a extensive repertoire to add atmosphere and a magic touch to your special occasion.
In 1996 Miriam Skinner and Lyndon Kriss, through a desire to experiment with cello and nylon stringed accoustic guitar, began developing arrangements of their favourite music. People seemed to enjoy this rather unusual combination of instruments and so... MirLyn was born. Since then, MirLyn has performed in many different situations and have been both the focus of attention and also the background, adding atmosphere and ambience to special occasions when people are gathered together to enjoy each others company.
Miriam Kriss was the youngest of eight girls and grew up in an environment rich in musical styles. Choosing to learn the cello however, steered her in a very classical direction, eventually graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1986. For the next few years Miriam freelanced as a cellist and cello teacher in Adelaide. She then spent several years travelling and gaining experience with musicians in London, Germany and Italy finally returning to Australia and settling in Ballarat.
Lyndon Kriss has a very diverse musical background incorporating many styles of music. He has engineered and produced over 80 commercial CD releases for other artists in his own recording studio, SOUNDTRAX 919. For 25 years, Lyndon has been actively involved in performing and teaching music and production skills in the Ballarat area.
The diversity of Lyndon's musicianship is reflected in the various styles of music he has performed, recorded and explored. He has played guitar in shows such as Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar, War of the Worlds and Chess; played as a session musician on many commercial recordings. He is equally at home playing classical or electric guitar. One of his favourite performances was a piece by Dannielle O'Connor entitled, "Becoming Real" which combined guitar synthesiser, cello, vintage sequences, real-time computer generated music, didgerido, percussion, vocal and 6 dancers.
